Sac & Fox Overlook
Hardin County, Iowa
The Sac and Fox Overlook Area was purchased through a cooperative effort between the Hardin County Greenbelt Chapter of Pheasants Forever and the Hardin County Conservation Board. The 132 acres in this parcel consists of beautiful bluffs overlooking the scenic Iowa River valley, a 9.6-acre wetland, prairie, and woodland. The Hardin County Conservation Board received an Iowa D.O.T. Enhancement Grant in 2006 and hired our firm to develop the overlook into a showcase visitor destination and outdoor education facility. Features of the design include a raised overlook plaza for the outdoor classroom, a limestone and timber shelter structure, and a restroom building. Binocular viewers, a series of interpretive panels, and restoration of native vegetation further enhance the viewing experience.
