Cedar Falls High School

Cedar Falls, Iowa

RITLAND+KUIPER was hired by INVISION Architecture as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop this innovative $113 million new high school campus. Our team developed the site layout and grading plans that would maximize vehicular and pedestrian safety while providing great circulation, visual access, and preservation of open space. RKLA provided preliminary and final design of the new stadium track and field (including an 8-lane all-weather track, synthetic turf football/soccer field, and associated field event areas and equipment), as well as site fencing, irrigation for multiple practice fields to maximize turf quality and safety, and site landscape design. The new campus will include multiple low-impact development practices including over 30 acres of new prairie utilizing multiple seed mixtures for a variety of site conditions, native and locally adapted vegetation not requiring irrigation, bioretention cells filtering parking lot runoff, detention areas for stormwater quality and runoff control, planted windbreaks, and a solar panel field. We have partnered with the Cedar Falls Community School District, Tallgrass Prairie Center at the University of Northern Iowa, and the Natural Resource Conservation Service to create an outdoor classroom out of this new campus.
